The amount of times I have heard someone say that they could just eat a beautiful looking flower- is many. I think it falls somewhere under the family of cute aggression. With this in mind, I have decided to grow a selection of pretty edible flowers this summer that are as tasty and safe as they are beautiful. Each year I have people contacting me looking for flowers to include in their cooking and baking and my selection is usually slim so I am stepping it up this year! I will continue to carry the old favourites like Lavender, Chamomile and all of the herbs but this year I am also going to include some unique varieties of Pansies, Nasturtiums, Stock, Calendula and Violas. A few of these blooms have big plans atop wedding cakes and baked into summery pies and cookies and I'll be sure to share some photos before they get eaten.
Given the sad state of what we eat and feed our families and how little is being done to change this debilitating mindset, I am always trying to find ways to encourage people to be more thoughtful about what they consume and I hope that this inspires a people to take a few moments to a create and make a connection with their food.
